8 Plus Tutors

Your child's first entrance exam should not feel like their first big test. We prepare them so it doesn't.

What schools look for

More than a test of what your child knows

The 8+ is part written paper, part conversation. Schools are trying to picture your child in their classroom, not only mark an answer sheet.
All of it can be prepared for, calmly and in good time, so the day itself feels familiar rather than daunting.

Core subjects

Solid English and maths

Comprehension, grammar, spelling and handwriting, alongside mental arithmetic, fractions and early geometry.

Reasoning

Reasoning that can be taught

Verbal and non-verbal puzzles, grouping, patterns and mirror images. Unfamiliar at first, and quick to click with practice.

Interview

An interview that feels like a chat

Formal or informal, sometimes storytelling or a puzzle. We help your child relax and let their personality show.

Age and pace

Room for younger-in-the-year children

Schools account for birth month. We build steadily, so a summer-born child is never rushed to catch up.

Testimonials

When we started with Lionheart, our daughter was bright but lacked confidence in formal learning situations. The transformation over eight months was remarkable - not just academically, but in her belief in herself. She walked into her entrance exams with genuine excitement rather than anxiety. We couldn't be more grateful for the patient, expert guidance that helped her secure her place.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you speak with our 7+ team.

Many families begin early, sometimes from Year 1, which allows a gradual, low-pressure build. We also help children starting closer to the assessment, with focused sessions in the run-up.

Interviews can be formal or informal, and often include storytelling or puzzle tasks. They give schools a rounded sense of your child's personality, interests and how they engage with others.

It can. Schools know there are developmental differences between autumn-born and summer-born children in the same year, and adjust their expectations accordingly.

Many families do, given how competitive places are. We cover the core assessment thoroughly and can add sessions tailored to specific schools you have in mind.

No. Good 8+ preparation should feel structured and age-appropriate, not swamped with exam drills. Sessions are designed to be engaging, building skill and familiarity so the process feels manageable.

Fees depend on your child's needs and the tutor selected. Lauren or Beatrice will explain the relevant fee range during your consultation, with no obligation to book.
